Rejection of randomly coinciding 22 events in ZnMoO4 scintillating bolometers

چکیده
Random coincidence of 2ν2β decay events could be one of the main sources of background for 0ν2β decay in cryogenic bolometers due to their poor time resolution. Pulse-shape discrimination by using front edge analysis, the mean-time and χ methods was applied to discriminate randomly coinciding 2ν2β events in ZnMoO4 cryogenic scintillating bolometers. The background can be effectively rejected on the level of 99% by the mean-time analysis of heat signals with the rise time about 14 ms and the signal-to-noise ratio 900, and on the level of 98% for the light signals with 3 ms rise time and signal-to-noise ratio of 30 (under a requirement to detect 95% of single events). Importance of the signal-to-noise ratio, correct finding of the signal start and choice of an appropriate sampling frequency are discussed.

LUMINEU: a search for neutrinoless double beta decay based on ZnMoO4 scintillating bolometers
The LUMINEU is designed to investigate the possibility to search for neutrinoless double beta decay in Mo by means of a large array of scintillating bolometers based on ZnMoO4 crystals enriched in Mo. High energy resolution and relatively fast detectors, which are able to measure both the light and the heat generated upon the interaction of a particle in a crystal, are very promising for the re...

Luminescent bolometers are double-readout devices able to measure simultaneously the phonon and the light yields after a particle interaction in the detector. This operation allows in some cases to tag the type of the interacting quantum, crucial issue for background control in rare event experiments such as the search for neutrinoless double beta decay and for interactions of particle dark mat...
متن کاملPurification of molybdenum oxide, growth and characterization of medium size zinc molybdate crystals for the LUMINEU program
The LUMINEU program aims at performing a pilot experiment on neutrinoless double beta decay of Mo using radiopure ZnMoO4 crystals operated as scintillating bolometers. Growth of high quality radiopure crystals is a complex task, since there are no commercially available molybdenum compounds with the required levels of purity and radioactive contamination. This paper discusses approaches to puri...

The R&D activity performed during the last years proved the potential of ZnSe scintillating bolometers to the search for neutrino-less double beta decay, motivating the realization of the first large-mass experiment based on this technology: CUPID-0. The isotopic enrichment in 82Se, the Zn82Se crystals growth, as well as the light detectors production have been accomplished, and the experiment ...

P. Gorla Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso, I-67010, Assergi (L’Aquila), Italy Abstract We present the results obtained in the development of scintillating Double Beta Decay bolometers. Several Mo and Cd based crystals were tested with the bolometric technique. The scintillation light was measured through a second independent bolometer. A 140 g CdWO4 crystal was run in a 417 h live time measu...
